Learn what it takes to get your multi-engine pilot rating with Cubs Floats and Fun:
Eligibility: As a private or commercial pilot you just need to obtain the necessary multi-engine training to get your multi-engine pilot rating as outlined in the Federal Aviation Regulations.
No Exam Required: There is no FAA written exam for an add on multi-engine rating on your pilot's license. You'll need to have gained multi-engine knowledge; performance, aerodynamics, emergency operations and more only for your practical test or checkride.
Flight Training: To add a multi-engine add-on rating to your pilot's license under Code of Federal Regulations Part 61, you must be trained on a multi-engine aircraft's performance and limitations, aircraft systems, performance maneuvers, single engine operations, spin awareness, emergency operations and instrument approaches using only a single engine where applicable. There are no additonal flying hour requirements on top of the private or commercial pilot certificate you already have except you must have had at least three hours in a multi-engine aircraft prior to taking your checkride.
Multi-Engine Checkride: After a demonstration of proficiency on a multi-engine plane, you should be ready for your checkride. You will need to show skill at flying a multi-engine plane with one engine failed, and you will have the opportunity to practice that scenario many different times during your checkride flight; takeoff, landing, maneuvering, during instrument approach and more. As a pilot you are familiar with checkrides and know what to expect; a couple of hours groundwork for the verbal portion and your flight checkride. Have your paperwork in order including both your pilot and medical certificate and you are good to go.
